Hopeful Friday 4/28/06

Section head text.

In our never ending quest for ways to make you do our work for us, we present our latest weekly feature – Hopeful Fridays, the good twin of the Monday Hangover. Because hope springs eternal on Friday, before we’ve had our hats handed to us over the weekend.

Post your predictions for the weekend, talk some ill-advised smack, tell us where you’re racing, and most importantly, anonymously tell us who’s getting dropped.

Get thee to a training camp! Pray to St. Ginger for results.

Sturbridge

P123 Axis out in force, we’ll go with ‘Lonesome’ Loehner for best placed NYer.

3/4 God help all you 4’s should ‘Unsolicited advice’ Harris and ‘Orville’ Riffelmacher get in the same break. Other strong riders, JP Kaminski, Sean Marvel, Francisco Liuzzi, Luis Perez…

4 We get to check out Mr. Mojo Riseth, mini Thor in a real race. Other contenders, Ben Harris, David Burns, Tim Collins…

30+ Aspholm vs Badger? Badger doesn’t rollerblade or sail.

40+ Brian Rafferty all the way.

50+ 60+ Yeah, we got picks for these. R-r-right.

W P123 Heather LaBance.

W 3/4 Let’s hear it for…us! NYVC’s sending 4 women! So we’re picking them and Karen Ulrich (nickname too obvious).

Palmer

P123 Same story as Sturbridge, but we’ll say Zoltan for variety.

3/4 Ditto Sturbridge.

4 Ditto Sturbridge, except Ivry ‘What’s that’ Semel ‘can’t you Semel that Semel’, Andrew Cohen, and Chris Shaw will be fresh from skipping Sturbridge.

35+ Isn’t Armand ‘Hammer’ Della ‘Reese’ Monica ‘Lewinsky’ too boyish to be racing masters?

W P123 LaBance to double up.

W 3/4 Ditto Sturbridge.

Tour of Ephrata

Edgemont showing up in force. We’re going with Hungry again, because we’ll totally count his results as our own.

Kissena Opening Weekend

The Cat will take a flyer, Evil will rear it’s ugly head, and Gerry Martinez will win 85% of the races he enters.

Spring Series Prospect Park

We’re tired from talking out of our butts.

This week’s prize is a handmade dog humping cat sticker, mostly because I’m reasonably sure no one will claim it.

your graphics are wonderful. not sure which i like better, the stained galss or the cave drawings. you’re sick and have too much time on your hands, but i am impressed, and grateful!

Its good to hear some of the NYC boys are getting out of town, they’ll get some first hand experience of what real racing is.

Albeit, i’m no better for commenting and not going, (here comes the excuse, a good one though) I’m getting over a nsaty cold which killed my races last weekend, and has brought me slowly back onto roads this week.

I did the New Hampshire race weekend (last weekend), and wow! That is good racing up there. The course (on real roads) was like central park on steroids. 11miles all rolling hills with a climb that makes harlem hill look like a speed bump.

Good luck at Sturbridge! It’ll be great hearing the comments.

Predictions: They all get their butts handed to them, sorry guys.

I do honor them for getting out of town and upping there skills.

Good luck…. you’ll need it!

jason g,

i am not gonna get my butt kicked by a bunch of new englanders with stupid accents or canadians with even stupider accents.

NYC riders can do pretty well sometimes. I think CRCA riders got 1 and 2 (L-Mo and Stuey G) in the palmer p-1-2 three years ago, for example. Another local got 2nd in the Ephrata masters last year. Lot of top 10s at Palmer over the years in various fields. This is going to be a good weekend for some of the NYC crew.

two years ago Molloy won palmer (beating some good pros) and got 4th at monson. last year we slept thorugh palmer but in sturbridge (the new monson) i got 6th after a rain soaked lead out from Dr J and Kev.

JH

uhh, george hincapie was a ny racer, so we have plenty of talent to go around and kick some major butt, despite the limitations of our courses.

Eugene and Mengoni are at Tour of Shenandoah with my team mate Chris Jones. Well Chris is a 1 and I am just a scrub. So I am a wannabe teammate.

Jason G

wow, I stirred up the bee’s nest. I’m well aware of Georges home town, he went on 17 straight wins and won the junior national championships, riding for the almighty Toga no less.

All that i’m saying is that I hope kwk, JH and any others (especially crca and ss riders) have the opportunity to get out of town, there’s alot of racing out there (mostly higher intensity aswell).

I got my butt handed to me in New Hampshire at turtlepond after having a great previous race getting second the 3/4 race on 4/16. I loved it, and i’m sure it upped my intensity.

We’ll see, i’m just talkin some smack! Isn’t that what this forum is for?

Tony M

Hey Schmalz,
Not only would I claim my sticker if my prediction about Tony Settel is right, I’d like to buy one if I lose.

Brian R - WW

Thanks very much for the support in the form of the prediction above. Almost made you right. I came in 2nd, went for the win but maybe attacked the break a little early. I believe there were many frustrated teams back in the 40+ field today: CCB, Target Training, Arc en Ciel…all had several riders and none got into the top five although Ruiz and McKone were 6th and 7th.

Thanks for your help today JT
