The frame has been welded by Craig, our main welder. He’s pretty good. That’s an understatement.
To put in the brake bridge we used a mistake from a larger frame. The bridge must have been cut too small, but it will work fine on this 50cm frame once it’s mitered down a bit.
To miter we needed the width and miter angle. The fixture holds it in place for measuring (below)and soldering (next time).
It will get TIG tacked and then silver soldered. I decided to go with steel seat stays rather than carbon for two main reasons. First, this is not a race bike, so there’s no reason to worry about weight. Longevity is more important. This is D’s bike, and I’ve seen how her triathlon friends load ’em up. Second, even though I have a carbon wishbone on my own bike, I really like the classic look better.
Here’s the bridge in place after mitering.
