I always get a bit nervous on the Alpine climb. I had a bad crash there a few years ago. I’ve often considered the possibility of falling rocks. Today I found myself on Alpine in the rain doing my first 5x5s of the season. Common sense would warn that warming wet cliffs are most likely to give up the fight against gravity. My first time up a dictionary sized rock slammed the road maybe 10 feet behind me, right at the spot where the right lane of the road dips down as if it’s also about to let go. On a 6-7 minute pace this is about half way up. I continued on and finished the intervals, but maybe there’s another spot, or maybe I should just learn to do these on a flat road.
