Wednesday Argument
Winter is the time to try out new stuff and buy equipment for the upcoming season. Personally, I’ve changed pedal systems and have set of shoes coming via the bounty that is ebay, not that anyone gives a crap.
Are you getting yourself anything nice this winter? Do you think that new part will make you any faster? Do you really think you deserve it?
What pedals did you switch to? I ride Looks but I’m thinking about moving to Time
Speedplays – the floaty ones, not the zeros.
Might pre-order some New Ksyrium SL’s. need some wheels i can race in cross and they would make good backup wheels for the road.
i have speedplays and I’m thinking of switching to Time. What made you want to switch?

Christophe, I’ll sell you my used pair of Ksyriums (2005 model)
Float not that a big a deal to me, Speedplays allegdly lighter than the Shimanos I was running. But let’s be honest, I changed mostly out of boredom.
Tony – I’m interested in the SL’s if Christophe doesn’t want them. Email me. joel.rathbun@us.cibc.com
Making the jump to Tubulars. I’ve got some concern with racing on days in the high 90’s. Any advise?
Does anyone have a wall bike stand that they can fit 2 bikes on each rack? (for 4 bikes total?). Doesn’t have to look pretty, just need to take up less space with my bikes.
Thanks for the offer- how much are you selling them for?
I’m selling my used 2003 Ksyriums to make way for the new ones, so i might stick to some shiny new wheels. Cause theres nothing more fun then shiny new equipment… It’s funny how cyclists can justify new equipment, no matter how ridiculous…

I’m thinking new track bike – so much more reasonable than new road bike. Btw, switched to Time pedals last season and like ’em.
i got pegs
Time’s RXS pedals are the best they’re ever done. I’ve tried all the systems, and Time is the best for me. Low stack height, well-desined cleat, and the best float out there — very natural feeling and centered over the axle (not pivoting around the toe). A word of warning, Time’s have had a recall (see http://www.timesportusa.com); it’s not significant, just requires some loctite. However, if you buy off eBay, inquire about the pedal’s status.
Schmalz’s argument brings up a new argument: he bought pedals/shoes on eBay. What about the good, ole Local Bike Shop?
ebay in , ebay out…
going sram for shifters and front and rear derailleurs.
Hey Tony – are those the same Ksyriums that you raced in Slobtoberfest??? Those are priceless!
Track bike (with brake) for commuting and all Monday to friday rides
I am trying NOT to buy stuff this off season and hoping that makes me faster next season. Radical idea I know, but we’ll see if it works. The only thing i’ll be buying is the new team kit and stuff that wears out like chains and tires, or if I break something.
Joel, I’m designing the very object your’re interested in. Wood being the primary bldg. material. I’ve been looking around for the 4 frame wall stand and it doesnt exist. Prototype not built yet but when it is I’ll send pics to Velocity.
Whats the best 2 frame wall stand out there? I’m also looking for one
I pity the fool who buys those SLs.
all i have managed to do with any of my storage hooks is tear giant holes in walls and ceilings. no good.
Ever hear of a stud, stud?
What about power meters? The redesigned ergomo looks swell.
On the stand topic, I have the Sports Solutions floor-to-ceiling stand (the cheaper aluminum version, not the wood one), with 4 bike mounts on it and in use, and it’s been working well (i.e., not collapsing and destroying everything on and around it) for a year. All you need to do is accurately locate a ceiling beam and it should do the job insofar as putting 4 bikes in the space of 2.
i wish i had a stud to hold my bike
beer tent.
Beer + Altitude Tent = carb loading + blood boosting good times!
I’m keeping my eyes out for a LikeaBike on Craigslist for my 1yr old. Crazy expensive new ($279). Trying to figure out if a kids bike with the cranks & bb removed would be the same thing.
My idea is to have the floor to ceiling primary pole located close to the wall and to cantilever long enough supports to allow the frames to store one next to another. Most of the 4 bike storage poles on the market have the bike frames on both sides of the primary vertical pole making this a space killer.
Lee3 – I’ll finance part of your prototype development if you build me one. That’s exactly what I’m looking for.
Over thankgiving I’m going to try and secure a 2×4 to the wall and then use hooks, but my walls are some sort of plaster, rather than drywall, so I haven’t yet been able to find studs to screw into yet.
Its still in preliminary design as an auto-cad file. Now that I know that NYC is looking for something like this I’ll rap up the design phase sooner, get the dwgs. done, move it into build.
I am switching handlebars on one of my bikes from alum to carbon, basically just to match the feel (carbon dampening, width and thickness of bars) for both of my bikes. I guess thats right up there with changing pedals in terms of frivolous purchases for no good reason, right? Hey, 15 hours a week on that damn bike, and I want to be comfortable, OK?
I like the fatter width of the carbon bar, and actually do feel safer when I crank on them in sprints, since the alum bars are getting old and presumably weary. I sorta doubt Id break them, but think about it ever since a thread on this site last year when someone pointed out previous sudden failures. If I break my neck in this sport, I dont want it to be from equipment failure…
Lee3-did you buy tubulars yet? I’ve got a set of Reynolds Cirro SV campy-used twice-let me know if interested.
Havent researched the wheelset yet. That will probably be a Feb. purchase. Thanks for lookin out Mike. I’m leaning towards the Eastons but nothing etched in stone.
mean to say "slick looking" not cheapest looking đ
I found a bike rack on the streets of tribeca last week so now i have room for 8 bikes…. with the kids and even my wifes bike there is only 7 total….. so I have my eyes on a P3. I’m not sure my wife would even notice the extra frame hanging there.
has anyone used the Delta Michelangelo Gravity Rack? amazon’s selling em for 50 bucks with free shipping, but i want to know how sturdy they are
fill’er up, 8 bikes!
I’m guessing your bikes war paint is pretty much pooped on, no?
humm” ….
We should all buy one of those and stop drinking at lunch time
Don’t you mean "start" drinking at lunchtime?
I plan on buying a boat load of testosterone..and then I’m going to contract a computer programmer out of India to hack into USA Cyclings website and destroy all records of my positive drug tests. it’s an ambitious plan but how hard is it really to create resonable doubt?
i am going to buy one of those triobikes, pop on a powertap, do FBF, and then write a hate report for this site. think i’ll go down on the sandy corner? noo waaay.
No way that plan can go wrong…
"a minor component of red wine and other foods, run twice as far . . ."
Let me just alter my off season training to include massive doses of red wine…
yeah. article points out that resveratrol is present in red wine in only minuscule amounts. "No one could drink enough red wine to obtain" a useful dose, it seems.
but i’m willing to give it a try.
This is great news. Now everyone else will be showing up at the starting line with a cruel red wine hang over, not just me.
