Off Topic for Tue, 02/17/2009.

Welcome to the Tue, 02/17/2009 edition of Off Topic! You are looking at the next step in the evolution of VCN, the Off-Topic page. Have you ever been frustrated because you had a burning desire to call someone a sandbagger and could only hope to be timely by posting your comment to a photo gallery page or on a page describing a charity ride?

Well, your prayers have been answered! You can post your comment from the home page and it magically comes to rest here with the other orphans from the land of Misfit Comments. The page gets refreshed every day, but not to worry! Each day’s page will be archived and treasured, so you can look back on past pages with pride, shame or disgust-depending on how the day’s conversation went. So post away! We’ve got an internet to fill up.

Just deleted a ton of irrelevant posts in the Lim article. You can still criticize us, just stay on topic. Everything else needs to be here. So if you want to share your sweet sweet wit and wisdom with the world, you’ll have to use this box.

but points for trying. The pack of louts that roam this site (which I happily consider myself to be one of) will resist your attempts to force us into any simple ‘off topic’ boxes.

The captcha is ‘futile’

the non permanence of the off-topic box is a deterrent to many. how can one remember where (when?) they made that funny comment that made them smile for an entire work day?

at least when you hijack the allen lim thread you have something to remember it by.

what says brother historicus? never mind, he probably won’t read this, because come tomorrow, this message will be gone forever.

I’m sure you have much more pressing things to do, development-wise, but you should change the comment-deletion mechanism so that you can send off-topic comments over here, rather than wiping them out completely.

Yeah, we’re looking at a comment moving module. I think the off topics are archived somewhere, gotta look into that. Hijacking isn’t the worst thing in the world normally, but it can be a turn off to prospective interviewees. Also, something like the Lim interview is drawing a crowd beyond our little circle, and I don’t want to confuse newcomers.
