RACE RESULTS

Hangover 4/6/2009

Mon, 04/06/2009 - 12:08pm by schmalz

It's a busy morning here at NYVC world news network, but we still have time to fixate upon the most important races around.

At the CRCA club race, Alejandro Guzman of Foundation wins the A points race, with Ken Harris of Adler second and the A field losing to the B race. Samuel Schaeffer of Sanchez Houlihan-Lokey wins the B race, Chris Leong wins the C race, Magaret Shirely of Radical media wins the women's race.

At Bethel, Margaret Shirley of Radical wins again and takes the overall title; while Kyle Peppo of Adler wins the 3/4 race, but misses taking the overall title by one point.

At Sandy Hook, there was a lot of windy TT-ing going on with David Carr of Setanta self-tooting his way to a win in the 4/5 category, all the results are here.

Mike Maragrite of Empire wins in Philly on Sunday at the Philadelphia 2 day.

Reports of placings from the Spring Series race at FBF are sparse, but the crash reports are many. Among the crashed is local promoter and all around great guy Charlie Issendorf, who is now nursing a broken collarbone. We wish him and all of those who crashed a speedy recovery.

Bethel Notes from Aki
By: Wheelsucker
Tue, 04/07/2009 - 11:39am

Focusing on NY teams and doings:
1. Maggie Shirley (Radical Media) wins the race, the overall, and helps win the team trophy on a borrowed bike (Akis), a size S Giant with 175s, "tiny" bars (her words). She just swapped pedals, adjusted seat position, and went.
2. Ann Marie Miller gets second on a borrowed front wheel (also Akis) which, to be honest, Aki had to true before she could race it, hence Aki wasn't racing it. Later Aki used it because if it's good enough for Ann Marie...

I didn't post any posts before this, but perhaps one of the reasons someone re-posted the links is that I added race reports as I could, so the race results page evolved over the course of a day or so. I couldn't get race reports up until Monday, but the results were up Sunday.

Thanks to everyone that came out from the City to play at Bethel.

Categories are supposed to be a regional ranking system. No one from USAC is saying that cat 2 from, say, Indiana is equivalent to cat 2 from California (or New York even). If you only race in the city, and you get results in city B races, you should be allowed to move up to the category that lets you race A.

Mon, 04/06/2009 - 7:29pm

Funny that I didn't have to prove you wrong about it. Thanks to the person that posted the USAC results.

I will agree, AVD races can be crazy sometimes a bit disorganized but, you have to give the guy credit that he tries. Also, that he has one the longest running open race series in NYC. It's not easy to get help with running these races(free or paid for) at the unG-dly hour that we must compete. AVD can be more timely with results but, he gets them out these days. That is largely due to us complaining and or people helping him out where they can.

Come out, race and try to have a good time. Hope that you all stay safe - I know none of us want or can afford to get hurt.

We don't always get the SS results. This is why they can't be used for upgrades, if the results were posted on a site and specially submitted to USAC, they could be used for upgrades.

I want to side with you, but you wont be able to prove me wrong. Pleas try, show me any result from any AVD race ever in the USAC site. You wont find one.

By: Wheelsucker
Mon, 04/06/2009 - 5:06pm

A fifty-sixty mile race at Floyd is epic. It should be a spring series tradition. I hope it continues. I may walk funny all week, but finishing in the money was a great sense of accomplishment.

It would be nice if there were more timely updates. The idea that the guys on the leader board know what's going on is a bit erroneous. We don't. Loose ideas perhaps, but who is how many points from whom between individual categories? No, we really don't. It doesn't ruin the series though, and we should be thankful there are people out there making the effort to put so many races on.

Prospect Park P-1-2-3
Mon, 04/06/2009 - 4:38pm

Prospect Park P-1-2-3 results...
1) Rafphel of Mengioni
2) Loius Aquinos of Champion
3) Stephan Dioslaki of METRA/Cycles 54
4) Zoltan Racing dude

And yes...it was a windy HARD race
Everytime there was a headwind, it was attack attack attack and anytime the hill came around it was the same thing. It ended up in a long 2-man break - David, the ex-Nerac dude (I think) who now races for Mengioni + Steve of Metra/Cycles 54. This was joined by another 4 guys (Rafiel of Mengioni, Louis Aquinnos of Champion, Zoltan racing dude, Edwin of Toga) making it 6 total in the breakaway. The main field was nowhere to be seen. Going into the last lap, Zoltan dude attacked the hill super hard with only 3 others being able to respond and latch back on. Zoltan dude had major power...enough to shed Edwin & David of Mengioni. So it was down to 4. Approaching the line was the ususal cat and mouse game....Metra rolled off the front and opened approx a 50 ft gap. DAMN-IT go or not to go...go or not to go...is it to early?? do or die!!! do or die!! split second decision....Zoltan dude lays it all on the line throws it down super hard.... Metra latches on & Raph + Aquinos line up behind. Zoltan ends up in 4th, Raph & Aquinos 1st & 2nd respectively. Metra in 3rd.
That's pretty much the way it went down in the 123s for the top 4 spots.

Spring Series
By: Wheelsucker
Mon, 04/06/2009 - 4:12pm

Just because a race is hard does not mean it can be used for an upgrade. You need some actual proof that the race met the minimum number of starters requirement and that you actually placed.

As far as the USCF is concerned all these races started, but they never finished seeing as no results we submitted.

re: AVD results
By: Wheelsucker
Mon, 04/06/2009 - 4:11pm

You're still spending money on AVD's races and expecting a safe, well-run race or timely results?

Spring Series comment
By: ralba
Mon, 04/06/2009 - 4:13pm

Spring Series a disaster? I wouldn't say that. I admit, that at times AVD can be a bit slow - but, we always get the results. If you have time and want to help AVD out - I am sure he could use it and he wouldn't mind.

Also, you can use it for upgrading. Though I will say that I personally tried a few years back and was denied - though the last couple of years there has been some success in getting an upgrade from these races. Fact is, if the USCF gives the permit - then the race must qualify for points if it meets the requirements. Both Prospect Park and FBF this weekend do. Discretion though is often the reasoning for the upgrade, which is why you see my arguing for rider upgrades when they get denied.

The races have been hard and this weekends racing was a suffer fest - some of the hardest racing around town happened here this weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday had nearly 50% of the fields drop out. You don't have to take my word for it - take it from guys that are clearly spanking butt.

A wise man (JFT) once taught me, "Everyone should read the rulebook, at least once."

Rules governing points races covered by 2M.6 of the rulebook:

"2M.6 Finiah

(a) A points race ends when the leader completes the required distance. All other riders will finish on the same lap as the leader. Riders who have mishaps and are prevented from returning to the race by 2M5(b) will retain their points for the final classification. **Other riders who fail to complete the race shall not be placed.**"

Those who were pulled should not have been placed. But I don't think anyone protested in the 15 minute window.

Any thoughts on why guys that finished a lap down but got points on the first sprint finished ahead of guys that actually did all six laps. Every points race I have ever done deducts around 20 points from a rider if they are lapped.

From my point of view, Lisban was the riding the strongest at the end of the race yesterday, but he got a flat coming on 4-to-go. We soft pedaled for a bit, but there was no one around to give him a wheel. Losing him made the endgame much less interesting.

Charlie was on the ground in the same position for a long time. It didn't look good.

The B Race
By: Wheelsucker
Mon, 04/06/2009 - 2:50pm

was a lot of fun. Nice to see more and more team tactics coming out in the races. Also a generally safe race. Did anyone else notice that a TON of guys started the race? I remember, from my strategic vantage point in the back of the field, thinking to myself, "How many guys started this race?" Anybody know the amount of starters?

Shame about passing the A's. Those guys looked so down in the mouth, but that's ok. They have team Raphla's presence to cheer them up.

Get well, Charlie!!

Gavi Epstein of Champion System won yesterday's Spring Series on FBF. About 60 guys showed up and 10 finished. Gives you and idea on how hard it was!

He had about 1 minute on the guys in 2nd and 3rd.

It was a hard race.

Also, Charlie punctured a lung - he had to get surgery I heard.
