Kingpin - HJD Press Release

Mon, 01/26/2009 - 12:12pm by brian g

FOR IMMEDIATE (OR LEISURELY) RELEASE
January 25, 2009

NEW YORK – Responding to the urgent need for ANOTHER Cat 4-laden cycling squad, Kingpin Racing-HJD is proud to announce its formation as a 2009 CRCA sub-team.  Inspired by the camaraderie and sportsmanship depicted in the classic bowling films of the late 1990s, as well as a passion for riding as quickly in circles as possible, Kingpin Racing-HJD’s riders look forward to participating in the full slate of CRCA races as well as many local and regional events.

Kingpin Racing-HJD’s primary 2009 sponsor is the New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases (HJD), a premier facility specializing in orthopedic surgery, rheumatology & molecular medicine, rehabilitation medicine, and neurology.  Currently ranked eighth nationally among orthopedic hospitals by US News and World Report, HJD boasts a staff of experienced physicians and a world-class facility in the Gramercy neighborhood of Manhattan.  Check out HJD online at: www.med.nyu.edu/hjd, or call them at: 800-HJD- DOCS.  Kingpin Racing-HJD is also supported by: Hungarian National Cyclocross Champion Zoltan Tisza (www.ZoltanCoaching.com); Strictly Bicycles, with its brand new Ft. Lee location (www.strictlybicycles.com); Perseus Telecom, a carrier-neutral broker of telecommunications for customers in North America and Europe (www.perseustelecom.com); and OrthoChick.net, the brand and web location of fellow CRCA member Claudette Lajam, MD's orthopedic surgery practice.  Dr. Lajam offers special consideration for cyclists, who are scheduled for appointments on a priority basis.

The 2009 roster consists of:  Jeff Baumgardner, Jamie Brown, Brian Gatens, Jack Jefferies, Jim Mernin, Jock Percy, David Richman, Adam Rosenthal, Douglas von Bushberger, and Josh Warshofsky.  Aside from newcomer Percy, the riders have two years’ experience racing together, and all share a genuine love for team tactics.  Some may say this is simply because of a decided dearth of real individual “talent” on the team.  Perhaps they have a point.  Nonetheless, and regardless of results, Kingpin Racing-HJD takes seriously its goal of being more than just a bunch of guys riding around in the same shirt.

In addition, Kingpin Racing-HJD’s riders will continue their commitment to serving the larger community.  In years past, our riders have: volunteered to accompany wheelchair and handcycle racers at the NYC Marathon; volunteered to work with blind riders via the Achilles Track Club programs; served as ride leaders for the NJCare Plus RIde for Wellness; and performed extra marshaling duty for CRCA when needed.  Kingpin-HJD recognizes its responsibility as an ambassador of the sport and looks forward to continuing these types of activities.

Kingpin Racing-HJD wishes good luck and safe racing to all our fellow racers.  Look out for our soon-to-be-created trove of cycling treasure:  www.kingpinracing.net.

The team split was the hard part. I know you Kingpins are excited, and enjoy your season. TOA team remains, and all I can say is that I really like being a part of it. We are looking forward to the season, and keep the reason for the team true: healthy sport, good attitude, so forth.

"Fight Club". Presented by Gleason's gym.
The team keeps eating Meatloaf, thus are too fat to ever upgrade. They crash often to "HTFU" and never talk about it. To anyone.
In an odd twist of fate, at the end of the season, they all end up in wood chippers. The End.

This might be a dumb question, but...

of you, kind sir, who cares enough to take time from living in your parents' basement to actual weigh in and comment on the cultural deprivation of those who watch The Big Lebowski is truly Lebowskian in nature.

I love you, but sooner or later, you're going to have to face the fact you're a goddamn moron.

Hey guys, Good luck this year. We'll miss you at TOA but as usual we'll be seeing you at TOG! I'll echo the other comments about the kit - looks nice and will make it easier to follow your wheels and breakaway attempts (you will attempt them, no? but once I'm back you know you won't be succeeding at them either!). I'm a little disappointed you couldn't land American Beef as a sponsor. Maybe next year...

And to those calling out for the identities of the haters, well, I can't say I really care who the haters are. We appreciate the compliments, anonymous or otherwise.

Regarding OA: Jack Baranski and Co. roll on, classy as always. Our little group comprises many of OA's meat-eating heretics, so Jack's life has probably gotten a little easier with our moving on. :)

I would love it if Alex, Andy and Dan published the IP addresses of all the anonymous hater folks at the end of each month.

That would be supercool!

There are some nice kits for 09.
