Look out kid

This weekend we shall see the first big daylight race of the New York bike season with the Grant’s Tomb Criterium. The race’s annual biblically severe weather seems to have arrived a few days earlier than usual this year, and conditions may actually be trending towards "normal" for the race. But alas, I am no Al Roker, so it would be wise to bring along clothing for conditions that may range from "drizzle" to "pelting frozen frogs from the heavens".

The Grant’s Tomb Criterium takes place on Saturday at the place where Grant is buried (seriously, you know that’s Grant’s Tomb, right?).

Saturday also has the Branchbrook Park Spring Series Training Race #2.

Sunday has round two of the Spring Series in Central Park.

And Sunday also has the Outdoor Sport Center Bethel Spring Series’ Ris Van Bethel, which claims the NYVC prize for longest series name.

Keep a clean nose
Watch the plain clothes
You don’t need a weatherman
To know which way the wind blows

I guess you’re going to be at an Equinox spinning class seeing as hot chix are few and far between in a bike race.

So if these are all training races, then what exactly are you part time weekend racers aiming for….um…which races would be the real races?

Clerico maybe if not a sprint. I have Erik Post in the 3s. Another possibility in the 3s is Francisco Liuzzi if it comes down to a field sprint.

Nolan Biopace

Clerico is a mean tuna that eats small fish 3s for breakfast. Liuzzi is a strong contender if he stays in lane. Post needs a lucky break. I have Jacaruso if he can control his language.

Gilles Neck

Jacaruso has the caginess of Freire, the power output of Cippolini, and the mouth of an Angel.
