It's Monday and we have a reason to have a hangover! The Staten cross race had its maiden voyage, and from here on my perch in front of my computer—it appears it was held in mostly filthy conditions—perhaps through shallow ponds holding sewage slurry?
The Schmalz family outing to Staten Island was cancelled due to weather (my daughters are sooo soft), so results are not available at the moment. Please let us know who won, who fell, who had the most sausage and beer, and who then had the inevitable ensuing parking lot "mishap".

yeah, thanks for the reach-around...yeah, good waffles...umm
lets do more laps, -k? Right behind ya...!!!
We cleaned them out of the allotted 140 waffles.
Other than the cocoa (and the hand drier in the bathroom) they were the only warm things at the race. Unless you had a car, of course.
I don't think I've ever eaten so many waffles with nuttela and maple syrup.
great job to Kansas Waugh on a very sandy course
tons of photos and video are on the way- here's a great video david Chomowicz shot of the Men's C race.

Those at the race were the ones with cold feet.
get it? get it?
Who won the Bacon?
All those DNSs on BikeReg! Hah! Cold feet?
agreed, bacon is better.
I'm sure Armstrong didn't race cross this past weekend. He's and idiot, that continues to hurt cycling. Let's move on and back to what matters: bacon prizes.
CJ correctly pegged my helmet as John "wearing a teenage girl's rollerblade helmet". Thanks CJ.
Glad I could help you guys with the race.
the pros are a joke. all drugs all the time...whatever.
Anyone find it a big co-inky-dink that he puts this Tour news out himself just as word breaks over the weekend that Lance's hired drug tester, Don Catlin, is now grumbling that he hasn't been able to test Lance yet?
Does anyone *really* care about LA anymore? Didn't he quit cycling to have more time with his family?
Lance just texted: Just did an interview with AP announcing I am doing the Tour de France in 2009.

those carbon bars and cervelo forks were donated by the fine folks at Cadence. be sure to check out Mark Purdy's Fu-manchu next time you're there (touch it, it's real!)
as for the 45's, ifound those in a record store in new orleans for 25 cents a pop. sure some music afficionados might gasp in horror- but is there anything more appropriate than a rick james/james brown/isaac hayes record on a CX trophy?
What I want to know is who owned the old 45 rpm records that were used? That was slick.
Alan
CJ,
How many of the broken carbon bars did you donate to the "trophies" for this race?
I wasnt at the race, but that was true Belgian weather. Hope everyone has fun...
This one is a great photo

lighter, while being 300% more laterally rigid and 200% more vertically compliant than the Granogue flamingo trophies.

looks like someone found a use for those crappy cervelo forks
Are awesome! Really great work! I love mine. Eric
It was Roger. He called to cancel due to a conflict with some mullet contest in Iper. Apparently he had some tough competition with favorite Reed's distant cousin, Henk Lubberding:

Thanks, Sam,
Those waffles were awesome. Gotta find me some for lunch today.
But surely someone must have eaten more waffles than me. I mean, CJ was there.
Big kudos to Jed and CJ, this event is a fantastic example of what a smile and enthusiasm can achieve in NYC. It was awesome. Thank you guys!
Thanks also to Alan, all the officials and everyone that supported this event -- Don't envy anyone who had to brave that weather all day.
Looking forward to next year,
Eloy
Results will be up this morning.
Thanks,
Jed
