every year i see some of the 4s ride right into the barrier after turn 1, bounce off, then take down a few more riders - usually within the first few laps. Seems like they are afraid to lean, or are looking at the spectators and the bike goes where their eyes are looking. anyone who has ever ridden a motorcycle knows that if you stare at something, you will hit it.
of course there are crashes in every field but usually nothing that egregious.
Some riders go too wide and the road is crowned, so you are taking an off camber turn when you go wide. The cat 4 crash I saw was a couple of guys sliding out and then another locked up his brakes, probably because he had carbon wheels, and then sliding into the barriers. His Trek snapped into many pieces. Later on I saw a woman with an unhappy look dragging the bike away.
It's definitely harder than the rest. Other than the manhole cover and white lines is also a puddle that develops in the rain. After a successful race in wet conditions I think is was the best line...not as slippery believe it or not!
it seems a little narrower than the rest, there's a manhole cover on the inside, and lots of painted lines for when it's wet.
total sandbagger as a patent office employee
einstein was a f'ckin sandbagger
Totally amazing all the crashes in turn one every race, every field, every year. Wasn't it Einstein who said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?
