Governors Island Gran Prix

Location:

Governors Island, NY

On Sunday, July 12, a bicycle race will take place on historic Governors Island for the first time. Governors Island, in the heart of New York Harbor, is only 800 yards from Lower Manhattan, and even closer to Brooklyn. The inaugural Governors Island Gran Prix will feature only one race – a Pro/Category 1-2-3 event. One race. One hour. One hundred riders. The riders will compete on a 1.4 mile, criterium style course through the streets of Governors Island.

Next year there will be alot less races in this region. Registration is down big time for the mid season races and 2nd tier races. Unionvale is a fantastic even, one of the best courses and only 1.5 hours from NYC. Prereg only and the numbers are terrible. Maybe its the mid season burnout or just racing slowing down. So many guys who raced in 06-07 are out of racing.
