Hopeful Friday 10/9/2009

Thu, 10/08/2009 - 7:02pm by cjammet

Mornin' Neurotic Road racers and "laid back" CXers -   It's time for another round of Hopeful Friday!

For all of you never-say-die roadies who were arguing for an "extended road season" ,  look no further:    The Jamestown Classic is happening on Monday, October 12 in Jamestown, RI and is brought to you by your local rotary club!  What a perfect opportunity to be in denial about being burnt out!

All you females who aspire to ride fixed gears in a non-hipstery fashion should head on over to the Kissena Velodrome on Saturday for the Women's Track Clinic and co-ed Madison

For those of you ascribing to the Church of CX-ology,   you've got your pick of the proverbial litter.   There are a ton of races on the menu:

the 2-day Hudson Valley CX series is kicking off in Newburgh, NY  on Saturday and Sunday.   I'll be there attempting to race CX much in the same way that Anna Nicole Smith  attempted acting

If you'd rather feel the love festival-style,  The 2-day Providence CX Festival is happening in, you guessed it,  Providence, RI on Sat and Sun.  If the roster is any indication, it should be chock full of Lolz and Big Weens

Should you rather engage in something a bit more "Epic" than 45 miuntes of racing per day,  then head on over to Michaux State Forest, PA for Iron Cross VII.  You get a Regular CX race on Saturday,  Followed by a 62 mile trudge through the forest on your CX bike.   Have fun spending 4+ hours on a 'Cross bike-  i can barely deal with 45 minutes...

someone should contact the promoter... maybe he will create an aero-equipment-only cat 5 field for next year.

for some reason, the disc never bothers me as much as guys rocking spinergy or trispoke wheels in a road race or crit. i have an irrational fear of having my arm chopped off by a hed, or a spinergy shattering into carbon shrapnel in my face.

That's a whole lot of old nerd on one bike.

Considering they sometimes DQ guys who toss banana peels and wear sleeveless shirts, they should have sanctioned that dude. There's zero chance he didn't know you can't ride a disc, and it's pretty obnoxious to show up and flout the rules like that. I bet he used his winnings to buy wind tunnel time.

Mr. Curley was not, in fact, the rider in question. different age category, though Paul is one of the more famous (and accomplished)rear disc-users in the masters ranks. always rocks the mylar covers on his cross bike.

usually the guys who so brazenly ignore the rules about mass start wheel limitations don't win. bravo sir, however, i do feel that your choice of wheels seems rather garish on road bike.

dudes, take all your bikes, race cyclocross on Providence Sat and Sun and race the road monday -- get a 1 day license if you are not a cat 5 and win!

who cares? freakin' armstrong is aiming to win his age group in Kona. His age group, really, lancebagger.

If he can sandbag, so can you.

Dude, there's plenty of reason for so many cat 5 fields -- two of the four are filled, and the other two are close. The USCF doesn't allow 100-rider cat 5 fields, so your choices are -- turn people away, or have a whole lotta 5s. And they seem to be a plurality of the folks excited about racing in October.

They have cat 5 fields broken up by age. That is the mistake. Have 1 Cat 5, 1 Cat4 for men and women, 35plus, 45/55/65 plus, and a Pro1-3. No reason for so many Cat 5 fields.

Nice race but at this point in the season most are done or racing cross. Last time I did this race I was a 3 and Ted King was pulling the pack to bring back Bunde and an Athem racer. Bunde announced testing positive a week or so later

I'm racing as a 4, and didn't notice till today that there were no races for 3 and up -- a real anomaly on the calendar. Still, they're up to almost 500 registrants with another day left on pre-reg, so it doesn't look like they're hurting for entries.

I predict the women's fields will be combined in the end anyway -- looks like that gamble went bust.

Just thought I would throw in my discontent for the lack of a 1 12 or 123 field for Jamestown. I raced it last year and had a blast for an end of the season last road race. The race itself was cool as was the area. I would imagine they would make less money as a result of this. Perhaps next year the promoter will change his mind.

I actually had some back and forth with the promoter months ago when the bikereg page came up. He eliminated the P-1-2-3 race so he could free up a spot for two women's fields. I explained that he had 60+ riders conistantly in the P-3's, but he was more interested in having the dual women's races: W 3/4 35+, and W 3/4. The promoter is not a racer or come from a racing backround. The way he has it set up excludes both men (P-1-2-3) and women (P-1-2) from the ages of 19 -34. He said they may bring it back next year. Here is a link to email him for anyone who wants to have a say: http://www.jamestownclassic.org/contactus.cfm

That's right road chumps, Lance is going race the piping hot lave fields on the Queens Highway and become a real man, an IRONMAN. It's about time he used his type-A perfection in a real race of higher human drama.
