Welcome to a very special Halloween edition of hopeful Friday! So what's everyone going to be for Halloween? Here at VCN, H-ween is always a special affair. Schmalz has the perfect costume picked out while Andy Shen is getting ready to put on his Allen Lim costume, hand out Pina Colada Shot Bloks, and talk about training with power to any unfortunate kid that happens to knock on his door hoping for actual candy. As for myself, I'm racing CX dressed as Hanz from Hanz & Franz, making a B-line for alcohol and passing out somewhere convenient (a McDonald's in the West village most likely).
For those of you Curious about the weekend's race schedule, you've got a few choices.
Saturday will prove to be pretty hilarious as everyone shows up to Beacon CX. Some weirdos like to dress up in costume for the race. I can tell you that last year I was a Mario Brother, which seemed like a good idea at the time – right up until it started raining. 45 minutes of CX racing in soaked denim coveralls is probably about as miserable as it gets. This race has a beach run and a huge amphitheater run up. Fun times all around.
On Sunday you've got a tough choice: do you drive up to Tymor park and race HVCX, or do you head over to luxurious New Brunswick to race HPCX? The only advice I can give you is to follow your heart. Both races are put on by awesome promoters and they each promise to be a blast. I'll be too hungover to do anything but get brunch on Sunday, so that's what I pre-registered for.

It was a busy weekend (well, Saturday) of racing, so let's check out who has been immortalized in pixels this weekend.
It'll be a busy Saturday this weekend, which will allow everyone a day off to hit the brunch circuit on Sunday.
It was a weekend full of all sorts of achievements, so I need to stop playing around with am introduction, and get to the winning (™ Charlie Sheen and every tiresome friend you know).

Add a commentandrea, my doosh, the guy with a hard on for Will S is not nearly as annoying as the guy who has a hard on for the guy with a hard on for Will S (you)
and you dont like will s. getting called out anonymously. ok - but then why do you keep anonymously half-calling out some unnamed rider? why dont you spit out your guess, or stfu?
in that a lot of participants to not many blowhards?
CX has a impressive participation-to-blowhardiness ratio
Cadel to BMC makes sense if you put it in perspective. BMC the manufacturer and the team are owned by a billionaire that loves cycling. The team has done well and now he's writing checks to continue the growth of the team and promote the bicycles. FYI they dropped Assos and will be wearing Hincapie kit...no surprise.
Why do you (I suspect a certain Setanta rider) spend so much time posting randomly about Will S? Not sure who is worse?
my uncle having balls, he'd be my aunt...
If not for Indurain, Chaippuccino would have been remembered by more, and Bugno for that matter...
If not for is losers speak...
loser is a fair description of evans
Any words on how Will Schneider did this Sunday?
saw zoltan finished dead last, 5 laps down, at the super prestige race this weekend. i still think that's awesome. totally jealous
loser
BMC will be in the Tour. They will also be in the Giro and Vuelta IF they want. Relax, people.
Cadel doesn't ride cyclocross, therefore whatever happens to him is irrelevant
Thats my point... Not a given. A guy like Cadel only has so many Tours left in him. He misses out this year and he is likely never going to challenge again for the podium at his age. I understand why it makes sense for BMC but not for Cadel.
getting the wc on your team give you a better chance to get invited to the grand tours
Not sure this makes much sense for the world champ. They may not get an invite to any of the Grand Tours. They will be in the Classics (Hincapie and Ballan) and some of the 2nd tier tours (Swiss, Dauphine etc) but a Giro, Tour or Vuelta start are not a given. I would think he would have been better off at Garmin or Sky?
Strange...but then again so is Evans.
I didn't know BMC had that kind of revenue.
I see Dan and Kyle were 2nd and 3rd at Beacon. Great weekend for them. Other notable B racers this year in CX are Adam Duncan and Alejandro Guzman.
Dave Trimble's moving up as well. 9th today in only his second B race.
Evans signs three year deal with BMC. The birth of another US based grand tour team, bringing the total to four if you include the Shack team.
This is getting interesting.
It's absolutely NOT sandbagging to race a 2/3/4 event as a 2. Great work on Dan's part, he's really improved his form this year and has had Peppo on the ropes for a few races but will have to fend him off at Mercer, a long, flat course more suited to Peppo's technical style. I still think Peppo is going to come out swinging at Mercer and Whitmore's, and could take SICX with ease, given the guys from Philly Ciclismo don't show up and ride defensively for Lebair (as they have been doing). There's a few other local players like Bedoya, Fiorino, and Kremer (PA) who have great form this year and have a great shot at continuing to rob MAC points from our southern brothers. No matter what you say about sandbagging, our NYCX crew is killing it at the biggest races in our region so lay off on the harsh criticism... The MAC B's are not your regular Cat 3/4 crits.
If you want to see some good tactical riding, watch the top 10 in the B's... Great racing by guys who aren't lighting up park races but tend to head out of town or just focus on CX. Riding A's only makes sense if you (1) Get a UCI license (2) Get a pit bike (3) Have someone to work your pit (4) Ride the bigger races for better prize money.
Most of the good B riders will "race up" and do A events at non-series races like Westwood, SICX, Sussex, etc. It's crazy to expect these guys to hang with Trebon and Wicks after 3-4 solid rides in the B's.
That's my long-winded way of saying Chabanov is NOT a sandbagger. Great job Dan and Kyle.
Flame on, haters.
Totally different world. Dan is a Cat3 and has 2-3 wins and a few top 5s. He is racing Cat2s and 3s so technically he got his Cat2 upgrade and still able to race the Bs.
Racing the As is serious. Longer races, starting at the back and racing guys like Trebon et al. Either way great season for him this year. He is a great cross racer.
got his 2 upgrade and is still sandbagging.
Time to races the As. Nice Job to both guys!
Chabanov 1st, Peppo 3rd. nycx is a force.... a mighty force.
Can we get some results from beacon???
Where is your other hand when you typed that? Just curious..
CJ Rocks. Done so much for the NYC cycling community that it's ridiculous.
Are you planning on picking up a Franz somewhere on Saturday night?
I think you should go as a single speed CX world champ. Would be priceless! You would even make the Snobs site I am guessing.
