Merry Christmas, y'all.
When I told family members that "I'm not doing Christmas this year", there was a little dismay among them. How could anyone miss Christmas? And now that we've had breakfast this morning and are now in the buses (I'm writing while in the bus), we just realized what day it is. We don't have the same environment of context that exist in the US.
Much has happened since I last wrote. We raced 2 stages and are on our way to the third. The first day's course was a brute and, as you already know, we didn't fare well. Alberto was in the lead group, which was good, but I missed out on that selection and 2 of our guys were eliminated. This was very bad. Our sponsors were unhappy and there was the inevitable criticism on this site (justly delivered). My mistake was that I used too much energy going with the early attacks that when the real move went up the road, I didn't have the legs to respond. It was a dopey mistake (and I'm especially annoyed with myself because I'll have few opportunities in the coming stages, since they're flat). Wilson hung on for a long time and only got dropped in the final lap (of 7). He didn't lose very much time, but since the return from the circuit was along a closed highway, the didn't allow any riders behind the group to proceed. So they closed the gate on him. After the stage, our morale was low-- and we were dead tired.
But stage 2 was better. Pollo was assisting Katie (his wife) as soigneur and we were all in good spirits again. In the race, Amaurys scored one of the point sprints, but decided to save it for the finish. In the end, he got 15th, but we'll keep trying. (I've been trying to convince the guys to go for the sprint jersey, since it's another way to get onto the podium, but they're not going for it. But it would be different if we still had Pollo and Wilson-- this is their terrain. However, I've been thinking all morning about going for it myself. Those of you who have raced against me are probably having a belly laugh right now-- I'm no sprinter. But I want that jersey. We'll see what happens.) Regarding the speed of the racing, it's pretty quick, but manageable. However, when the hammer is dropped, we go to another level.
Another thing-- I wasn't sure what kind of fitness I would have for this thing. I've never raced at this time of year, and my last race was long ago (we did a small race over Thanksgiving, and I got dropped!). I also got a late start with my training, so I expected to be the weak link on the team. But I kept up with my training schedule, and spent a week in California training long hours there. Encouragingly, I seem to be going well now and I expect to get better as the days go on.
Ho, ho, ho.

I don't know if anyone else would agree but it's been a weird winter around these parts.
Whew! Its been a crazy couple of weeks. I’ve got a pretty substantial back log of race reports to write. I’m going to attempt to survey my final three weeks of Cyclocross racing, Season 1. If it is too long, I’m sorry. Maybe I’ll just ‘twitter’ the next on.

Add a commentJC..... You're a supreme douche bag. Go crawl back under the pile of discarded tires upon which you came.
One positive rider doesnt make the whole team dirty chief. If that were the case many squads would've been flushed down the toilet.
Why dont you re
A little help anyone?
Eugene! Correct me if I'm wrong but one of your teamates just got banned for using clomed. Well explain that one for inquiring minds.
When our guys get dropped, we're accused of being hacks. Then we get a result, and we're accused of doping.
Duh.
i would be honored
Dont we all hope we don't get randomly tested?
the reason the stages are short are beacuse they are circuit races in downtown locations. they probably are allowed to race for 2-3 hours. the same reason we can only race 2 hours at most in central park.
Keep using that damn good Rite Aid but don't get tested!
why are the stages so short? they average less than 60 miles and the longest is only 68. that's like cat 3/4 distance.
Well gee, I hope Amauri isn't one of the riders randomly selected daily for some blood and urine tests.
right on!
Mengoni gets 3rd!

by the way, blogs are lame. I think the Chinese might have the right idea by blocking it.

BTW, Katie's blog is inaccessible to us from China. There's some serious censorship here, and certain web sites are blocked (like Wikipedia and blogspot). And as such, Katie hasn't been able to update her blog. I think she's going to try (maybe she alread
You guys are stickin it to'em. Keep it up and look out for the mansize baboons - jeez!
You mean stopped after 4 laps? Thats just unfair, being stopped with only half the race to go!

yeah
I attacked from the gun, 3 guys joined me 1.5 laps later, and I won the first point sprint. HA! They don't know who they're messin' with. And Amaury also won a mid-race sprint.
Amaury finished slightly better than the previous day-- he said that the sp
DNF because he didn't arrive at the finish on his bicycle, and didn't cross the finish line. The finish was 15k from the circuits, where he was stopped.
No spin, just the facts.
Wilson's cutoff was strangely a DNF, not a HD, strange....Wonder how that works......Almost as if he got off his bike and Did Not Finish....
but the rest of you guys will have your time
LOL word. go get em.
