Sunday Group Rides with Scot Willingham

Section head text.

@##=#<1,R>@##=#This is an invitation to riders.

An informal winter training ride will be led by Scot Willingham, CPT, ACSM and USAC Expert Coach starting Sunday, Oct. 17th and every Sunday until New Year’s. The ride is a Long, Slow, Distance ride. HR monitors or Power meters are suggested as you will be attempting to maintain your effort in your aerobic zone. The ride leaves from Engineer’s Gate (90th and 5th) every Sunday at 9 am. The ride crosses the GWB and can be met there at approx. 9:45-10 am. It goes North on River Rd., 9W or 501 depending on the size of the group and the route picked for that day. Hillier routes are chosen as NYC cyclists need that vertical training. A 12-27 is suggested for spinning uphill at LSD.

All riders must wear helmets. It is recommended that riders carry at least one tube, pump or CO2, tire irons, a multi-tool, cash and/or credit card and a rain cape. You should bring enough water and food for a round trip. There are several turnaround spots for shorter mileage in all the rides.

Other suggestions:

• Start your winter with new tires

• Add a tire liner/tough tube to reduce flats

• Make sure that your bike is in good repair.

• Evaluate your winter clothing.

If you are interested in participating, please email me at scot@shankpro.com so that I know to expect you and, if necessary, send you notice of cancellation. Rain or snow cancels.
