Release the hounds

The day has finally arrived! It’s opening weekend of bikes in New York City! It’s time to reap the benefits of bike training camps and off-season weight loss strategies that treat gluten like plutonium and make us react to carbs like Dracula seeing the sun rising. I for one am glad to see the season start, as it means there will be a shift in my Facebook time line from "I rode when there was snow on the ground" photos to "photos of results sheets showing I finished in the money". These are the salad days my friends…

There’s an embarrassment of spring racing riches to be had this weekend. On Saturday, the CRCA kicks off its season with a club race in Central Park.

Also on Saturday, there’s the 2014 Lucarelli & Castaldi Branchbrook Park Spring Series: Bloomfield Tour.

Sunday has the start of the Spring Series in Central Park, and also on Sunday is the beginning of the Bethel series with the succinctly named 2014 Bethel Spring Series – Ronde de Bethel – p/b Outdoor Sports Center, which loses out to the Branchbrook series by two characters in the race name length contest, but this season’s not over, not over indeed.

3rd today, but first of the year to say, “FIRST”. I know it’s kinda lame to say that when really third. It’s like being the first American in Philly years ago. You don’t win the race, but you do get to be national champion.

Of course there are things to complain about, but today’s Spring Series race was overall very well done. Thanks AvD

Yesterday’s crca race was a shivering 18 degrees! My marshal post was right before the run up of cats paw. Cecilia in the ladies race won in a solo break with a timed gap of 2 minutes 25 seconds. The 6-8 guys in the mens C race stayed together until they crested the hill at cat’s paw. Alex of foundation rode away early and stayed away in the B race. While a group of 4-5 guys in the A race worked together until the end. Chad Butts and Zach got a bike length on the other breakaway companions coming into the finish. Zach rode Chads wheel until they got to the top of the hill and Zach came around him for the win. It was so darn cold it was hard to move!

Spring Series went well today, nice job AVD.

Did anyone else who was there find that the smaller fields made it any safer?
