The upcoming weekend has the spring race series marching on while the big dirty race upstate looms on the training schedule for many. Let’s have a seat (you need to save your legs for Battenkill) and see what the weekend offers.
On Saturday there’s the Cherry Blossom Challenge at Branch Brook Park, and that pretty much does it for Saturday.
Sunday brings races in the Spring Series in Central Park and the 2011 Outdoor Sport Center Bethel Spring Series with the Circuit Francis J Clarke, but much of the weekend’s focus (and obsessiveness) will be upon Cambridge, NY and the Tour of the Battenkill. I’ll include the registration link here, but the date has long passed when you could get yourself into the race. Also, the forecast portends a high of 62 degrees and a chance for rain. It’s good that you are sitting down already. I’ll see you at the port-o-johns.
I hope I get some really cool pix for the $75 it cost me to be a part of this sensational event. I am glad I got pre-reg or it would have been 95 bucks.
Who won at FBF last night?
Drive 3+ hours, pay $75-95, ride in a cluster-fucked field, then drive 3+ more hours.
FBF cat 3/4
1- lance sniadowski (organic)
2- Wojciech plata (kissena)
3- James Joseph (united)
4- an unattached rider I believe
4 man break lasted entire race basically, got split up with two to go with a crash
Racing in the dark at Floyd- very fun.
Josh Sakofsky won the Cat 5 field for NYvelocity.
Priceless! Maybe I will finish in 3 different fields like I did a couple of years ago, ( according to results)
If you had “two out of the first three comments will be guys bitching about the battenkill entry fee” you are a winner in the NYVC office pool!
At least I will positively win something this weekend. I hope the payout is good.
So for those of you bithchng about the BK entry fee, how much do u think it should cost? I mean, so you’re possibly paying a few extra bucks for a well organized race on a course you will otherwise never get to race on? What are you going to do this Sunday, ride 9W and the hills of NJ for the 1000th time???/
Actually, I’m gonna wait a couple weeks so I can pay $200 to ride 9W.
Actually, I’m gonna wait a couple weeks so I can pay $200 to ride 9W.
I never have a problem with the race entry fees if the event is well run and has a good course and big fields. $100 to race is less then most of us pay for monthly parts, gels and misc shit for our hobby. The thing that always deterred me from racing Battenkill (I raced in 07 and 08) is the long as drive (6-7 hours round trip) with very little for the family in terms of food and things to do at the actual race venue. The race is worth doing once, but every year is tough for most with families due to the location. I think Tour of Catskills is quickly becoming the best regional stage race and may ultimately take over as Dieters No. 1 due to the venue being much nicer and the location being much closer to most in the Metro area.
With a 15 person field that split I can’t even imagine how there was a crash in the 3/4 field last night. I hope everyone is ok.
Dump the family.
See Rule 11

FBF photos?
I believe it was dark, thats how the crash happened!!
See 123 race – no crashes finished 2 laps later in much darker conditions.
FBF cat 1/2/3
1-Jermaine Burrowes
2-Brian Breach
3-Tony Hall
I can’t believe Brian Breach lost.
“dump the family” – likely from the single guy living in his parents basement still convinced he will get on a “Pro” team soon…
Did rumors of testing at Battenkill keep some teams away?
or, just a guy trying to crack a joke, but you don’t get it because you’re too caught up on how your family is keeping you from doing what you really want to do, and all the rationalizations that come with it.

Chauner, solo, FTW.
Battenkill’s distance and shitty venue is more of a deterent than the entry fee for many. Family makes the race /haul even more of tough call. I have raced it twice and it was a blast. Like I said, its worth doing once. I have raced pretty much every major NE event (road, cx and mtn) and Battenkill ranks up there as one of the biggest most fun races.
Battenkill is a great race…the most “epic” one we have. Everyone who races should do it once. But yes, it is a haul to get there, and there isn’t much else around there by way of attractions.
A deterrent for all but the 2700 folks + some 200 pro/1s that signed up?
uh.
That said, the dirt roads upstate are a special kind of mud after the winter we’ve had. It certainly has huge drawing power but there are way too many other things I’d rather do with my weekend.
AvD must have a voodoo doll of Dieter because other than the easy to sell out 5 field no one is signed up for Central Park on Sunday.
Not doing Battenkill if you race your bike is like not doing the NYC Marathon if you run.
The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) today suspended Mebane, North Carolina’s Peter Cannell for doping.
37 year-old Cannell tested positive for the anabolic agent drostanolone in an out-of-competition test taken on April 16, 2010.
After being confronted by a USADA investigation, Cannell also admitted to previously using anabolics and forfeited all of his competitive results, prizes and points from February 6, 2007 onward.
Just the type of guy I’d want coaching me
If there is a govt shutdown, will it effect racing? i suppose it’s really just Floyd that is a natl park, but won’t that be closed in this case?
Anybody know a good place to rent a road bike in Marin County (near Stinson Beach)?
You could find Goldman and others stroking him over on PE back in the day. He was way too fast and disapeared from cylcing overnight… Goodbye!
Masteron is a powerful anabolic/androgenic steroid derived from DHT that was designed to fight certain forms of breast cancer. It is used by bodybuilders as a bulking and cutting agent, as well as an ancillary drug to combat estrogenic side effects like water-retention. Its toxicity to the liver is very low, although side effects such as acne, hair loss and prostrate enlargement are common.
Masteron is an injectable preparation containing the steroid drostanolone propionate. Drostanolone is a derivative of dihydrotestosterone, most specifically 2alpha-methyldihydrotestosterone. As a result, the structure of this steroid is that of a moderate anabolic/potent androgen which does not aromatize to estrogen. Water retention and gynecomastia therefore do not come into play with this drug. Masteron may in fact exhibit anti-estrogenic activity in the body, competing with other substrates for binding to aromatase. This would reduce the conversion rate of other steroids, Masteron acting in the same way as the oral steroid Proviron.
Bodybuilders have a strong like for non-aromatizing androgens, and find Masteron very useful in a cutting phase. It is generally used for a number of weeks prior to a competition, in an effort to bring out an improved look of density and hardness to the muscles. As long as body fat percentage is low enough, Masteron should work very well. Provided everything fits as if should, the user can achieve that “ripped†look so popular to professional bodybuilding. The androgenic effect can also be crucial during this period, a time when caloric intake is drastically lowered. The user is provided added “kick†or “drive†to push through the grueling training sessions leading up to the show. Recreational users might also be interested in Masteron. Although dihydrotestosterone is not highly active in muscle tissue, the 2 alkylation present on drostanolone considerably intensifies its anabolic effect. It can therefore be used somewhat effectively as bulking agent, providing a consistent gain of high quality muscle mass. It can also be successfully combined with other steroids for an enhanced effect. Mixing drostanolone with an injectable anabolic such as Deca-Durabolin or Equipoise can prove quite useful for example, the two providing notably enhanced muscle gain without excessive water retention. For greater mass gains, a stronger androgen such as Dianabol or an injectable testosterone would do the trick. The result here can be an extreme muscle gain, with a lower level of water retention & other estrogenic side effects than if these steroids were used alone (usually in higher doses). Masteron could of course be used during cutting phases of training as well. A cycle of this drug combined with Winstrol, Primobolan or Oxandrolone should provide great muscle retention and fat loss, during a period which can be very catabolic without steroids. It is an added benefit that none of these steroids aromatize, and therefore there is no additional worry of unwanted water and fat retention.
large, extinct, elephant like mammal.
“The board seems kinda dead these days, but since he used to post here he has the dubious honor of being the 2nd PE [PelotonEast] poster to get popped.”
Cannell is second PE guy busted, Jon Chodoroff was first. Both won TT National Championships.
Where are the photos from FBF?!!!!!!!!!!!
this guy DONE 12:52pm is a cheap dummie!! …..i really hate cheap peaople!!…is a shame to have people like that around events like Batenkill. done, why dont better stay in the sofa scratching your balls please.
that i decided i’d “rather go race my ferrari” and feel off the face of the earth completely at pretty much exactly the same time chodroff and cannell got popped
just sayin
SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY.
FLECHA FLECHA FLECHA.
BOONEN.
O’GRADY.
And yes no Garmin on the podium. sorry but if JV is in the driver seat again why even show up to race. they ‘CAN NOT DO ANY MORE WORK’ from the hotel.
that the vast, vast majority of those doping amongst us will never be caught. If they don’t go to Nat’s and win a medal or show at major National Calandar events, chances are they won’t be asked to piss in a cup. Too bad since we could certainly use some more incentive for people like these two Peleton East riders to play by the rules!
For all his big talk against USACycling and UCI, Dieter Drake’s Battenkill race probably has more dopers than any other race in the country and he doesn’t even try to do anything about it.
Sure cheaters exist everywhere. As long as there’s competition, money and fame to be won, there will be cheaters. Not just in bike racing but in real life. Race for presidency, certain financial guys, baseball…
It’s sad, but it exist.
And you are a douche for pointing at bike race promotor.
Not the practice, but the douchy post slamming Dieter
Don’t hate the player, hate the game
“For all his big talk against USACycling and UCI, Dieter Drake’s Battenkill race probably has more dopers than any other race in the country and he doesn’t even try to do anything about it.”
what a frickin moron you are.
Thank you Andy or Schmalz or whoever decided to remove the Winsterol comment. Though I didn’t feel it was necessarily terrible, I appreciate not having to be libeled because of some other idiot who decided to circumvent the rules. I read the posts and am disgusted as any of you by the idiot behavior. Yes there are more people who cheat out there and most of them will never be caught. But, just because I like to stir up crap, what about those of you who know someone is cheating? When a person knows that a fellow racer is cheating and maybe winning, or is still maybe pack fill, what is their responsibility? Should they distance themselves? Rat them out? Ignore the fact (as I suspect most do)?
What is the NYVelocity view on cheaters by association?
what was the winsterol comment?
http://www.njbikeracing.com/files/2011/cb.html
Douchy comment slamming the promoter, perhaps heavy handed with his expression. There is a point to be made in that regard. I’m not sure what Dieter does as of late since I havent raced Battenkill since 07′, but it seems to me that his race is getting bigger each year. It makes good sense to do controls for that race @ as many levels that can be afforded. I would feel better about the experience knowing that the person that beat me did it clean.
So what recourse does one have at a race that doesnt control,or whereever, and you know a rider thats using? I actually wouldnt know. Do you go up to an official before the start and point him out? Does he then deny it and then later theres a parking lot scuffle? Write a letter to someone while the winner is spending your prize money?
MQ – Flecha?
MATT GOSS wins Roubaix 11′
If Dieter institutes doping controls at Battenkill entry fees will jump higher still.
that’s results, bro
Will O’Donnell is not a Dr. Just sayin’
i’d pay more in entry fees to watch parking lot brawls post-race.
now that’s value .
A medical doctor is just a licensed drug dealer.
Pro-1-2-3
Ricky WON!!
Don’t know 2nd or 3rd….
technically speaking, a pharmacy is the drug dealer in that they, well, deal drugs.
So Cannell stomped some of these guys in NJ TT a few years back after lapping a field in a crit. Now TT Vegan wants his medal for being second in TT and O’Donnell posts something like he hates dopers and just thought Cannell was super strong like another Westwood guy we all know. And O’Donnell goes on to brag that he rode with Chodroff and he was strong but not crazy strong blah blah. Don’t each of them realize that posting that crap just puts them (TT vegan, O’Donnell, and the guy we all know)at the top of the whisper list?
Idiots it doesn’t matter what you say in your blogs, if you improve a lot or have crazy good results, the assumption is you are doing something. I guarantee 90% of the guys that raced Harlem last year think the 2 Euros were on something just life in cycling. Win Battenkill by 30 min asuumption is something ain’t right. Ride 7 hrs a day speed skate and then do some 40/20s blah blah you get my point…………
the PE posts just crack me up. but anyway, who’s been speed skating? what does that have to do with this?
the kid who could not pass his organic chemistry class in college but would wear medical dr.’s whites and call himself a doctor (they are mostly boys), no matter what.
not just sayin’
1-Gary Steinberg
2-Frank Arroyo
3-Mark Alden
an MD is a drug pusher, not the actual dealer, more like a middle man, cool.
Clerico wins Battenkill 3 pink, Barouh 3rd.
that vegan dude rides 7 hrs then does an olympic speed skating workout. all before breakfast
clearly, you need to find a more reputable physician.
Milkman wins Cat 4 puce.
Car took out some riders at Battenkill. Do not know how bad it was.
http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Tour-of-the-Battenkill-racers-injured-1330930.php
“According to Washington County Sheriff, the accident occurred occurred at 1:25 p.m. and three medical flights responded to the scene. All three victims were flown to Albany Medical Center. The extent of their injuries was not known and the cause of the accident is also unknown.”

David Anthony = #1
Excellent job, well deserved
THE David Anthony wins at Battenkill, AGAIN???
That dude was nursing the milky teats of victory at Battenkill just a couple of years ago too, when he was but a babe in the woods.
His meteoric rise to greatness is inspiring.
Surely he is now officially the winningest NYC rider at Battenkill, evah!
Wow. That’s pretty fucking queer.
A certain Milton quote comes to mind
Was it a dusty event this year?
Who won battenkill by 30minutes? Was that today?
Does anyone know which 3 riders got hit by a car?
What a clusterFkuc that must have been to come flying off a climb and get smashed up by a car. I hope everyone is ok.
A 30minute gap would be like 5 miles on that course. I imagine the OP was just exaggerating.
Thor should send back that world champion’s jersey.
he rode like a school girl. he and ballan were totally weak and scared of doing work with Cancellara.
Cancellara is king. Everyone has to grow some balls.
There is a westwood rider that often crushes Masters fields that he enters.
I think thats what that meant
give Vaughters a piece of his mind after Thor refused to work. What a dick Thor was (yeah, I know after his teamate was off solo, he couldn’t work, I’m talking about before that).
did what Boonan should have done @ Flanders. Thor rode the smart race. Fabian has only himself and harsh luck to blame.
AvD had not two, but three fields come together simultaneously and gleefully tweeted about it.
Sunday was a Slam Van-Dunk
…..just a matter of time until we see some new headlines…
baited breath, right here. your dot-dot-dot’s and everything? forget it, i’m on the edge of my seat.
bated.
So what’s the big news?
This sport strokes the winners without question even when the results are just not right.
Looking back, I feel much better about my pack fill racing. It was clean, honest and what this sport at our level should be about. Guys like Cannell and company turn this beautiful sport into numbers and results on USA cycling. I remember Cannell actually posting on PE how he did not really like to just ride his bike. It was all about the intervals and winning… Red flags all over the place with him.
I would love for PE to repost all his blog posts. Would be interesting to look back on.
Cannel’s posts were still there over the weekend.
Sure enough still there
