Hunter Spring Classic

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BY ANTHEM SPORTS – http://www.greatamericancycling.com

5/9/2012

Hunter, NY – Organizers of the 1st Annual Hunter Mountain Spring Classic Cycling Race announce their inaugural event scheduled for this Saturday, May 12 in Hunter and surrounding communities of the Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York. The event marks a return of major events to the Northern Catskills region where Tropical Storm Irene and Hurricane Lee ravaged many of the roads in the fall of 2011, devastating many area communities. The event will start and finish adjacent to Dolans Lake Park on Riverside Drive in Hunter. Racers will compete on a 39 mile circuit in Greene and Ulster counties, circumventing the lofty Hunter Mountain each lap. Reconstruction continues in the area, but the event will travel on state roads that have been completely repaired to their original condition prior to the storms, marking a remarkable effort by local, county, state, and federal agencies to restore the region ahead of the spring and summer tourism seasons that are vital to the region. More than 400 racers are expected to compete. Races begin at 10 AM in Hunter.

The Hunter Mountain Spring Classic is stop #3 on the Stan’s Notubes Great American Cycling Series with the popular Tour of the Battenkill in April in Cambridge, NY, and the Tour of the Catskills in August, which includes the Windham area similarly affected by storm damage. Other events in New York, Vermont and Colorado are also on the series. More than 5,000 racers are expected to participate in the series 2012. A pioneer in the cycling industry, series title sponsor Stan’s Notubes of Big Flats, NY was also recently announced as a major sponsor of June’s Windham Mountain World Cup. Congrats to all those who braved the wind and on-and-off-again rain. Remember, we always race rain or shine. Races are only canceled if the course is flooded.

78 mile Cat 5 race at Hunter Mountain? Isn’t that going to lead to a tremendous number of DNFs?

Frederico Seattube

Dear Crca
Cat 3 series ? It is another 3/4 combined race that we just did in PP and we can do all spring/summer at FBF!
Why didn’t you guys combine 4 and 5 and give the 3s race on their own – if you are going to promote is as Cat 3 series…if changes needed to be made due to constraints, call it what it is.

If you have questions about the fields that we’re running at Orchard Beach feel free to shoot me an e-mail at openracing@crca.net.

I can discuss the field choices at Orchard Beach in as much detail as you’d like and if you have any feedback on Orchard Beach, the Accelerade Cat 3 Racing Series or CRCA Open Races in general I’d be happy to discuss it.

I have to agree with mt Fredrico.
I was all excited to race a cat 3 crit, until I went to bike reg to register and saw that it’s a 3/4 race, no thanks.
I am not criticizing CRCA or anyone as I am sure that organizing a race and trying to fit in all of the categories is allot of work. but if you are calling it a cat 3 series then give us a cat 3 race, or change the name of the series.
Like the other poster mentioned there are plenty of other options for 3/4 races.

Registration closes Thursday, not tonight

No, I would rather not race with dudes who just upgraded.

Cat 4’s are basically dudes with 10+ race experience…no thanks.

I have respect for the cat 4’s for life but the field is tainted due to rookies constantly upgrading.

I swore I would never race another 3/4 and here is is again…

Ridolfo Tank

with you justifying the 3/4 field by noting the amount of registrants, many of whom are only 4s, you’re making yourself appear ignorant AND a dick. nice job, spin-bro.

spin-o

I’m not justifying it. Just stating facts. It’s the only field with anything approaching a reasonable registration. I couldn’t give less of a shit if you race or not, or if there’s one 4 or a hundred in that field. If it’s all 4s in there maybe CRCA should cancel the rest of the races and run only cat four races that day. It’s a massively underwhelming response to the race so far.

Vincent Neck

Cat 2 here. Yes, please give the 3s their own race. We don’t want them crashing us out in the 1/2 field. Or keep them with the 4s.

schmalz

the cat 1s dump on the cat 2s who dump on the cat 3s who dump on the cat 4s who dump on the cat5s, and so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

Charlie I

Tonight’s FBF race is on as scheduled. Remember, we race rain or shine and only if the course is flooded at race time is the race canceled.

Cancellation announcements will be made on this website.

Don’t forget – use the SAME NUMBER each week.

More like a test tube…dude where’s your mind at?

Please don’t ride behind me.
