You see what you people did, we lost Mehi? I go out for a two hour ride in sub freezing temperatures so I can leave a humble brag comment, and look what happens.

Mauro Pulley

What I’m incredulous about is that this whole conversation thread was spawned by the repeated uncontrolled spewing of one sole Master baiter…

Gilles Steerer

You left out boring, listening to masters park racers chat each other up, YAWN YAWN YAWN!!!

mehi

This may be the last time I post as myself. One anonymous asshole is too many. I don’t get why I would sell my soul to the devil? I rode for Ricks (now Eneas is the owner) Tagetraining team for nothing, last years team budget was $500, and I was happy with that, the year before I was paying for my kit, and did so for few years after ReMax. I have also raced with 4 of the same guys for about 25 years, and that takes priority over anything else.

Fact; Rick thought Brian Wolf cut him off in a race, Brian beat him, Rick protested, but the result stood. They both insulted each other after the race. The video that did not go viral, but did get a few views shows nothing out of the ordinary. Both Rick and Brian thought they were right, typical bike racing. I suspect Brian Wolf who has been campaigning against Rick since that incident is behind some of these post. Rick is a very good friend that goes well beyond bike racing. I will always defend him. His results although not stellar are solid for a 52 year old, and although no wins last year that’s due in part to breakaways. Targetraing had a pro team, they raced Tour Of Georgia and won a jersey, some on the roster at the time are still pros.

Rick pissed some people off that I have no issue with, but I won’t get involved in that stuff as it has nothing to do with me. There are two side to each story, I don’t know either. I may have pissed people off too, but don’t know who, or why I’m getting attacked. Shrapnel?

The first post about Rick is clearly a set up, since I have talked to Rick this week, but did not bring this up, I have to assume he has not even read these posts.

Raphael Roadie

From Elliston’s bio:

I have also raced professionally with the Navigators Insurance Team, Sony Music Studios, TARGETRAINING, and RiteAid Pro Cycling.

Eneas’ bio also claims he rode as a pro.

If you want to say either of those things are falsehoods, fine. Take it up with those guys.

I don’t give a rat’s ass about Rick. It’s clear he pissed in your cornflakes though. Good on him. Whoever included his name in a list of cat 1 masters who can still factor into open races is a dummy. Morgan too, for that matter, being he downgraded to Cat 4.

Jim Tarnacle

Who is clueless, Elliston never rode for Target and Eneas was Cat 1. He never took out a pro license.

RE Spears – If we’re going to talk about this stuff, my concern is that we speak accurately, so let the truth speak. RE: Spears – nothing to let go of, just by the way he carries himself at the races, it’s obvious he’s just the Peloton idiot.

Fabian Can Shellara

Y’all can bicker about who’s on what team and share articles from 2006. But what’s really important is where the hell are all the photos from the Spring Series Cat 5s?!?!

mehi

Rick would never post about himself, and he is a very good sprinter and one of the best in the 50+. Badger is in different category all together, much stronger rider in every dept. One of the best in the area age aside.

Clearly a couple of of people, maybe only one, are trying to stir the pot. Dan, can you get IP address of the trouble maker, match it with other posts, perhaps he logged in once, or we can narrow it down to the area he lives or works?

schmalz

Little known fact, John Fere, pete chainring, dave cogset and hammer head? All the same person from Bethel CT.

Bottom Bracket

If you go to the Spring Series #1 pictures you will see Rick Spear and Mehi in Target training kits with their arms around each other.
Mehi is pre-reg for Grants Tomb for Target Training.

In answer to Froomestrong’s post: last year at the CT Criterium Championship in New Britain, Rick Spear went around to all the racers in his race after the race and to the chief official trying to slander a certain rider and get him DQ’d or relegated. Unfortunately for RS, someone in the race had a helmet cam which went viral on you-tube. It made RS out to be a liar. It exposed him to being the horrible pathetic lying person that he is.

He is truly bad for this sport.

Froomestrong

I’m new, can you explain to the masses why this guy and Target Training deserve such ridicule? I’ve raced against some people I don’t like too much, but don’t call them out without explaining why.

Raphael Roadie

Neither one of those guys are on Target Training any longer, which was predominantly an elite team and then one of the best masters teams in the NE. Now it’s mainly Eneass team (who owns TT now) who can can probably ride 99.9% of the guys who read this forum off his wheel.

Sew up

Regardless if Schmalz knows who is posting on his site, going back to the Masters debate earlier today to hear names like Durso, Loehner, Eugene, Steinberg, Olsen, Tony Taylor and see a post with Badger and Rick Spear As notable sprinters in the same breath,( Badger being in a different universe than Spear) and then Mehi would have us all believe that Spear is one of the best 50+ sprinters, and then Rubber Hood post Spears USA Cycling results.
It has become very obvious that Spears is the turd floating in that very talented pool of Masters Cyclist.

Raphael Roadie

Rick and Mihael are racing for a city team this year. Based on posts on facebook their clothes aren;’t in yet. Eneas owns Target now, and as was said they were a damn fine masters squad (and formerly a pro team). Rick was the owner of Target. While not on the aforementioned elite team, as the owner and a racer he rode for the team. If you don’t like him great. But turning this into some spewing of a personal grudge is fucking dumb.

Giulio del Friuli

Is it near my taint (which I’ve finally located using a #2 pencil and a mirror) Not to be boastful but I didn’t even need to take off my shoes- huzzah!

Jim Tarnacle

What’s fucking dumb is you trying to have everyone believe Target had a former pro team. Name one pro that was on that team. Secondly, as far as Mehi goes – he would team up with the devil if the price was right. (Spears)

This started with the post RE: Rick Spears and Badger – 2 notable master sprinters.

With what we know about Spears and his cycling results, it could only have been Spears posting that response.

This board has allowed the cycling community in this area to police itself and use flamethrowers on guys like Rick Spears for over a decade.

I don’t see Raphael Roadie as being qualified to be the board policeman for this website.

Raphael Roadie

Maybe, but you lack both perspective and knowledge. Bill Elliston, a former pro rode for target as did Eneas Freyre. I can’t rattle off the roster right here, but for sure someone can.

http://spokepost.com/news/?articleID=1326&catViewAll=5

What started with Spears is something you’ve yet to let go of. Who gives a shit about Rick? But to indicate Target never had a good team just means you’re clueless.

sauce boss

“Cleiman was the policeman of the break, yelling at me to pull off if I didn’t plan on rolling through”

ah, the opinio juris of amateur bike racing…

Rayan O-Ring

If you raced the 1/2/3 you would remember what its like to get spanked by the youngins… do us a favor, quit racing and get your kids to the junior races. Your time has passed.

Master RULE!!

Remember Rayan O-A==hole you will get OLD one day DUMMY.. I think you are a BASTARD CHILD and your MOMMY and DADDY do not LOVE you. Grow up PUNK!

Alexandre Brakepad

Rayan 0-Ring wins dickhead of the year award, hands down, and the season just started. Congrats.

Rayan O-Ring

I will get old one day and I’ll step down and take care of my wife and kids… stop being selfish and take care of your wife and kids. Look at how few junior racers there are compared to masters

Master RULE!!

We all will get OLD one day DUMMY. So go in your room and hung your OLD parents because they LOVE you, they just can not HELP that you are STUPID. Grow up!

Diego Chainline

last years Harlem Crit, 40+ 31 laps, 29.1 mph average. P12, 35 laps, 29.1 mph average. Yeah, a race for decrepit old guys….

@ Antonio

“Teamwork! Today’s race was absolutely amazing, not because I won (cause I didn’t) but because racing bikes are always fun. I trained the last 3-4 “

Fuckin geezers

would not be 29.1 if you did the full 35 laps. Its not all about you, get your juniors off the couch on on a saddle.

Diego Chainline

When I can no longer dish out pain to much younger riders, I’ll stop racing. Not until then.

and consider this Rayon A$$hole….if there were no masters riders racing, there would be no bike racing in NYC at all. There are about 10 juniors racing. Most guys under 35 are too busy drinking, smoking, and sleeping late to race or train. There would be no promoters willing to put on races for 20 guys total, and the whole thing would disappear. So be grateful, you little sh!t.

Ted

Not ashamed to say that I am yet to beat Mark McCormick and Adam Myerson in a race unless they were leading someone out. And John Durso is still tough to beat. All guys in their 40s. You don’t need to have the fastest legs when you know how to race well.

Fuckin geezers

I’m saying that YOU are the problem. There are too many masters racer, so many that you have multiple categories and they are all full. Decked out with Madfibers, and DI2 for what? You’re not going anywhere in the sport… you will continue to get slower with age. Where are your kids? Why not buy them a (reasonable) bike and get them started in the sport, so maybe they can progress and actually have a chance to reach something meaningful like the TDF or Olympics. My only regret is that I didn’t know about cycling until I missed that boat… and to think there were a plethora of races in my back yard, yet the typical teenager has no idea of how many races we have and how rewarding this sport is. Pass it on, and take pride in supporting someone young get somewhere, no one has done it on his own.

Nathan Kevlar

“do something in the sport” LOL. All there is to do is to become a master if you aren’t already one.

Fuckin geezers

thats the problem…. focus should be getting kids to the World Tour, and not Masters flexing their toys. That is why we suck in Europe

Ted

nice!! i dont remember that race, but nicely done. Last Rockliegh race I remember was heading straight for that tree.

Nathan Kevlar

idot – we have a huge amount of kids in the world tour especially by historic standards. The route there is not through the local parks. At least not for long.

Diego Chainline

You really are a fool. None of the kids of masters racers I know who have kids old enough to race as a junior have the slightest interest in it. They would rather play basketball, or play video games, or smoke weed. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Again….no NYC masters races….No NYC racing. Period. The infrastructure isn’t there to support it.

Again. If you are serious about bike racing, you shouldn’t be in this town, with sh!t weather and races which go endlessly in circles. Move to Colorado or California and see how you really stack up. But don’t begrudge older racers who enjoy racing their bikes and probably still can kick your stupid ass despite being old.

John Fere

Rick Spears , Please, He never won anything

He posted that about himself, so he can seem relevant.

Kylian Swage

Diego’s got it right. And you’re a total loser. Any master’s racer would easily hand you your ass – both on the bike and off the bike. You’re a piece of shit who will never know the hardened person you’d become if you were to last long enough to race a master’s race. You got no character and ya got no courage with those lame-assed statements (although you won’t get this and will probably drop in w/yet another mindless stupid comment. Whatever – go for it.)

Bridgegate Biker

Master’s have every right to ride Mad Fibers and Di2. They’ve put in their time. Way I see it, when you’re young you will do well without the fanciest gear and you can enjoy. When you’re older you’ve made some money and you are allowed to splurge on luxury parts.

What’s messed up are the younger riders with $8,000 bikes and $3,000 wheels racing in the Cat3s and 4s (throw juniors into this too whose parents by them top of the line stuff only for them to burn out down the road). I got my upgrade on an old bike, old wheels without an 11 tooth gear against guys with fancy zipps and carbon litespeeds. And yes there was one junior who showed up at ToSomervlle with Mad Fibers and a blue Colnago for Liberty cycle. Kid was barely 13 riding these wheels. Teach your kids how to race first, then give them technological advantages through equipment.

Raphael Roadie

Some of you guys are nuts. Durso, Loehner, Eugene, Steinberg, Olsen, Alessandro, Tony Taylor…there are some legitimately fast 45+ guys.

Baptiste Hammer

Scott Gregoire gets the double and wins Masters at SS after winning Masters at Branchbrook.

kaefer

Wow, Rayan O-Ring, that is harsh. Reality is that you are either there already and didn’t beat Scott or you will one day be there and still will not beat Scott.

NFR

I’ll pile on….Rayan O-Ring is an idiot. Masters races are no joke, usually very tactical and nearly as fast as the P123s. Scott is competitive in a 123 field sprint….very likely you couldn’t come close to beating him.
