Hangover April 7, 2014

Major awards

There was a booming bevy of bike racing this weekend, and I now feel obligated to type out what you have already probably looked up on your own already.

At the Lucarelli &Castaldi Cup in Prospect Park on Saturday, Eugene Boronow of G.S. Mengoni USA won the pro 1/2/3 race. Matthew Moocarme of Organic Athlete won the cat 4 race. Jesus Martinez of Triangle Cyclists won the cat 5 race. Results are here.

Rumor has it that Mike Margarite of Stan’s NoTubes won the pro/1/2/3 race at Cherry Blossom, and that is all I know.

Up at Bethel, Zach Koop of Blue Ribbon-Translations.com won the pro 1/2/3 race. Amanda Braverman of Stan’s NoTubes p/b enduranceWERX won the women’s race. Ryan McGarrity of Sixcycle-RK&O won the cat 3/4 race. Gary Steinberg of Brauer/Mick Management won the 45+ race. Rudy Bleakley Jr of Sherpa-Team Mossman wom the cat 4 race. Lucas Smallidge of John Jay Mountain Bike won the juniors race. Jason Atwater won the cat 5 race. Results are here.

And this finally brings us to Battenkill (shocklngly, I’m not bothering to check the Spring Series results), the rules for large out of town race results are different, a podium placing gets you a mention, a Paypal transfer gets you as much typing about yourself as you desire.

On Saturday, Chris Strumolo of e2Value was third in the cat 2 race. Cassandra Maximenko of Stan’s NoTubes p/b enduranceWERX won the women’s cat 3/4 race, Barb Blakley of CityMD Women’s Racing was third. Erika Tarte of Kissena Cycling Club was second in the women’s cat 4 race. Maria Rosenfeld of Dave Jordan Racing won the women’s cat 4 40+ race. Brean Shea of Pink Rhino Racing won the 4B 40+ race. Alyosha Smolarski of W&D Racing/NYC Velo was second in the men’s 4C race. Christopher Peck of e2Value was second in the 4D race. Jovica Ivetic was third in the 4E race. Timothy Livolsi Jr of Team HB Hilltop was second on the 5A U35 race. Jonas Gustafsson won the 5B U35 race with Baris Aytan of Team BS second. Andrew Bonsall of Lucarelli & Castaldi was second in the 5D 35+ race. Results are here.

On Sunday, Scott Zwizanski of Optum won the pro/1 race. Cecilia Davis-Hayes of Stan’s NoTubes p/b enduranceWERX was second in the women’s pro/1/2 race. Greg Galletta of BH/Comedy Central was second in the 35+ race. Result are here.

Eli, hate to pile on, but it seems like an odd choice to race the 1/2/3 race a couple weeks after getting dropped from the 3/4 field.

Romain Tubie

I will pile on…maybe he just wants to race with Zach-or be Zach? His blog posts have become like his riding…he’s just given up.

this dude is neither a good enough writer nor a good enough bike racer to adequately justify the time he spends writing this crap. sure, we’re not all poets, but c’mon, at least be able to hang in CP. shit is easy if you’re sitting in.

Noa Drainhole

Just a friendly suggestion:

You are probably strong enough for the B race. What you need to do is think a little. When you are thinking about attacking or bridging, ask yourself “why?”. If you don’t know why you are busting your lungs, don’t.

If you try something and it doesn’t work, ask yourself “why didn’t that work?”. If you try something that works, ask yourself “why did that work?”.

See, this is part of what’s known as the “learning process”, and you may find it beneficial. I know I, and many others, have in the past and continue to do so.

Try it, you’ll thank me later.

pretty short shorts, eli.

rather than blow yourself up with fast guys, wouldn’t it be better to sit in til you are comfortable?>

bout to get real?

Enzo Seatmast

and in other news, race officials at bkill have apparently never witnessed a pro/1 sprint before..

Froomestrong

TO Eli’s credit the 123 field at CP was fairly small (probably 35 riders). There were a few single file moments when the pace hurt a bit. Pretty much whever Kissena chased down Steve Dialoski

Froomestrong

Relegated to 4th, ok. But 8th? Why 8th? ALso, would love to see UHC rider relegated for the stuff they pull during crits.

Froomestrong

I thought Kissena chased down that group of 6 at CP? I was happily riding behind Willie Peyton, so I couldn’t see much anyway. 🙂

Niccolo Ziptie

To be fair to Eli, he should expect to be able to not just sit in, but to place and even win in the 123 field his first season as a 3. After all, even though he has no results or shown any real aptitude, there is no reason to think he has anything to learn in the 3/4 races.

Rune Axle

Categories are overrated… a lot of people would be way faster if they only had an “A” race

Post

And once they dropped the Kissena rider who had initially made the break, they were all reeled in…they never should have dropped that guy, Kissena had 6 in the field. A bike racing lesson for those 4 guys.

Martin Topcap

Race the 3/4’s, train harder, race smarter . . . all good ideas. Whatever you do Eli, just don’t do like DA and dope your way to the podium. It’s not worth it.

Simon Ergopower

Keep doing what you do Eli. The NYC racing scene has a bit more personality because of you.

Honestly, how does anyone who races a bike not do Battenkill? Time/Money? You all waste so much damn time and money already. It’s one of the few/only “real” races around here. I’m serious and would like to know why every pretend bike racer doesn’t do it?

Rosso Fork

…honestly, the beauty of living someplace like the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast is getting to choose what types of races you enter.

That said, Battenkill was fairly enjoyable…it’s obvious who the non-cross racers are on a day with mud and skinny tires…

jvf

everyone should race Battenkill at least once, it’s an experience….even if it’s not your kind of race. but if you’re not competitive in that sort of race, it’s not worth the time/expense of doing it every year. No reason to turn it into some kind of religious pilgrimage.

Thibaut Housing

Did anyone see the L&C results with Mengoni taking 1st thru 4th. Well done! Was it a break or a field sprint or a combination of the two?

I see Scott Zwizanski punished the amateurs and D level pros at Battenkill!

...

meh. There’s a 96 mile 1,2 race starting at 12:30 on mother’s day…not so much for most old guys. Then guys bitch when the old guys downgrade to cat 3 and dominate.

Don’t matter much…in the northeast there’s always something else to do.

you

…because you’re not as special as you think you are. There’s a race for you in your category– same gender as you, same strength level. Perfect.
