6/30 Rest

7/1 2 hours endurance with 3×15 threshold

We had a BBQ to go to at noon. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to get a ride in, or perhaps get on the rollers. I could’ve just gotten up early, but it’s pretty hard to slip out quietly, and I didn’t want to wake Laurie and Sofie. But Baby Siggy broke into Sofie’s room at 6 and woke her up, which woke us up, which in turn gave me the green light to go for a ride at 7. I’ve never been so happy to lose sleep.

Since I had 15 minute threshold intervals, I decided to go ahead and head out with the TT bike and full aero kit and do full laps. Once again, every Tom, Dick, and Harry sprints by me with a smirk while I warm up.

The first two miles go by in 4:20, eight seconds off my 14 minute pace. George Suter was out on his new Argon TT bike at the 4 mile mark, and while yelling ‘you suck’ to him I forget to take my 4 mile time. Useful data lost so I could act like a jackass. Well done. I think it was about 9:20, 5 seconds too slow. I ended up at 14:05, running out of gas instead of accelerating. Not terrible considering my lack of preparation.

Afterwards I did a few laps with George, mixing in some tempo TTT efforts. The park was getting too crowded to go all out, and I was out of gas anyway. George is 6′ 2″ with long legs, while I’m 6′ with short legs. In his draft I barely have to pedal
