NYVelocity welcomes NYC Velo (now say that five times fast).

In a city full of generic bike shops with generic services staffed by non-cyclists, NYC Velo takes the bike shop to the next level. For the cyclist, by the cyclist is the best way to describe this place.

Owner Andrew Crooks, an avid MTB and cyclocross racer, takes his business seriously. He carries parts and brands that he himself would ride and has attracted some of the best salespeople and most meticulous mechanics around in just a few weeks. The space itself is very well designed–no bikes hanging from the ceiling, no barriers between you and the mechanics, free coffee & bagels, a lounge area to shoot the breeze, and if that wasn’t enough a flat screen TV showing, you guessed it, cycling. It’s also a labor of love. Andrew renovated the space himself, with a little help from friends and family.

The staff is diverse and extremely knowledgeable in everything from top of the line race bikes to daily commuting bikes. Andrew’s first question to prospective employees is, “Do you ride a bike?” Duh! It should be a given for a bike shop employee but if you asked around town you’d be surprised how many guys in shops really ride. (Hint: it’s probably not enough to give you any real feedback on how that Hollowgram 613 handles).

Definitely check this place out. NYC Velo is on 2nd avenue betweet 3rd & 4th streets and is online at nycvelo.com. They currently carry Ridley, Bianchi, Spot Brand, Kona, Vicious Cycles, and De Rosa. More brands are coming in, so check their site often.

The shop is beautiful, bought a Kona Stuff there on Friday (thanks for holding it for me!) and met Andrew, Greg & Tyson. It’s nice to finally have a true “LBS” (local bike shop) in NYC. It’s also great to have a shop where the staff is Truly Passionate about cycling.

Shop looks great. You have much of which to be proud. May all of NYC realize their advantages. Oh! and the knowledge and talent . It’s easy to tell that you are enjoying each part of the business. We wish you the best of everything.

I have known Andy (Shop Owner) for a long time and have to recommend his shop to anyone in that area. He is someone who truely cares about cycling and his fellow cyclist. I met Andy while at school at Texas A&M and don’t have room here to mention all the things he has done for our sport. Andy has been an officer with several clubs, raced most every type of race there is, led group rides, worked as a bike messenger in NYC, and even promoted races. The shop is extremely nice and I gaurantee you will receivce the best treatment possible at NYC Velo.

I don’t support anyone who believes in critical mass and its’ looney, liberal disregard for traffic laws as witnessed by myself. Don’t like cars? Go live with the Amish. Or go back where you came from. NYC generates millions in a short day to be the city you chose to drop your bags.

I rencently moved to the area and quickly adopted nycvelo as my local shop. The staff is really helpful, nice and not prententious at all (unlike some other shops that I will refrain from mentioning here). Really a great shop.

… I rode with Andy from Miami to Talahassee IN 1997 and he is probably the most knowledgeable cycling dude I know….. some of the intangibles that come with purchasing there.

I like to party. I like to eat chicken. I really like to samba. But I really really like the bike shop.
