The road to becoming "BikeSmith" began back in 2008 when the former owners re-opened the old "Brooklyn Bike & Board" as "Brooklyn Cycle Works". This first location has served the Prospect Heights neighborhood as their local bike shop for many, many years and continues to be a staple in the local cycling community. ‘Cycle Works remained the only location until 2012 when the company expanded to their second location on Smith Street in Boerum Hill. Here the BikeSmith name was born – on Smith Street – get it? As the company grew and our team expanded, based on the success of the initial two locations, "BikeSmith II" (as it was originally known) was then opened in early 2013 in the fast-growing East Williamsburg community.

In the fall of 2013, BikeSmith underwent some ownership and structural changes. The current owner, Leonard Zella, brought General Manager Stefan Pappalardo on board and all the stores were rebranded under the "BikeSmith" name. As part of the reorganization, Stefan brought several new brands on board including Trek, Raleigh and KHS Bicycles. BikeSmith is now one of Brooklyn’s most-accessible and biggest bicycle retailers. With our new line-up we’re looking forward to a great year of cycling and many more to come.
